Layers — what shows on screen and what prints

Free — no account needed Updated 2026-08-25

Open Layers in the top bar — “Layers — show/hide and include/exclude from printing”. Every object is already on a layer by what it is, and each layer has two independent switches: Select (whether you can see and pick it in the editor) and Print (whether it goes into the PDF, PNG and DXF).

Layers are free, and they are presentation only: hiding a layer never changes the model. Rooms stay detected, dimensions stay anchored, areas stay measured.

Doors and windows follow their host wall, and scale figures have their own layer separate from the furnishing — which is what lets a permit set drop the people and keep the furniture.

What it is for

One drawing, several deliverables, with nothing deleted and nothing duplicated:

  • A permit set — furniture and scale figures off, dimensions and areas on.
  • A furniture layout — dimensions off, furnishing on.
  • A working drawing — build-up labels on, sketched notes off.

A layer that is hidden never prints, whatever its Print switch says.

Custom layers

+ New layer makes your own, and any selected object can be moved onto it from the Layer row in the properties panel. Deleting a custom layer does not delete its objects — they return to their normal system layers.

Selecting a whole layer

The button on a layer row selects everything on that layer on the current floor. Press Delete to clear it, or use it to recolour or move a whole category at once. Hidden layers cannot be selected — show the layer first.

What this doesn’t do

  • No per-layer line weight or colour. A layer decides visibility, not style.
  • No layer per storey. Layers are document-wide; the ⌖ selection is per-floor.
  • DXF layer names are fixed. The exported CAD file uses its own layer names (WALLS, OPENINGS, OUTLINE, AREAS, DIMENSIONS, GRID), not yours.
